There are various good methodologies when it comes to managing time effectively. But one of the favorite methodologies practiced worldwide these days is called 5S, an abbreviation for Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke. It was first adopted by Japanese manufacturing companies for delivery of goods just in time or JIT. But nowadays, a great number of industries, government, hospital, banking and others practice it.

If you are wondering how it is possible to adopt this methodology in your daily life, may it be at your working place or at your home, here is how:

Seiri or Sorting: Office –Go through all your documents, in your files, at your table and every other place. Segregate according to what you use every day or often and what you hardly use or do not use at all. Go through all the documents that you hardly use or do not use at all. You may want to dispose some of them and store the rest somewhere.

You may need your superior’s permission prior to disposing some documents. So check with your supervisor prior to disposing any important but old document. Do the same thing with soft copy files. With computer being the primary means of communication and doing work these days, sorting all your soft copy files is important too.

Why is sorting important? Here is a worst-case scenario, your supervisor asks you for a very urgent document for discussion during a very important business meeting. He needs it within five minutes. You search and search but you cannot find the document he wants. Your five minutes are up. He asks if you had found it yet.

Then he says it is fine because he has to attend the meeting. The meeting does not go as smoothly as he wanted it be. There have been instances of people losing their chance at a new business because of lack of proper documents. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Page 1
