The recipe for the drink was passed from one generation to another, spanning more than 7 decades! A long time ago, around 25 different types of herbs were used to make this drink. But, now, due to lack of availability of specific herbs in the country, only 12 different types of herbs are used.
Having tried the drink myself, I can attest to its cooling effect on a hot summer day. This is hardly surprising considering the drink also contains coconut flesh, coconut water and syrup water. Basil seeds are also added to the drink. Imagine drinking something, which costs a mere US$0.40 but tastes like heaven! It was divine sipping this drink on a hot summer day after walking around Chulia Street and other nearby streets.
If you are wondering how to find this place, it is very simple. Just go to Tamil Street, which is near Chowrasta Market. The drink is sold at stall number three or four from the T-junction.
Many tourists who visit Penang are not aware of this. If you ever go to Penang (does not matter whether you are a Malaysian or foreigner), do not forget to try this drink!
